Hi gillibob & to CCF I'm not sure about the Numismatic value of this coin but $3,000 an oz seems way excessive to me,considering gold spot price is $1575 at the moment.

I would'nt pay that much. Only because I'm not a fan. However, it was issued at this price and it's sold out, so there's probably a lot of interested people in such a coin. There was only 60 issued.. Past sales indicate that one on ebay sold for 10k and also 20k but was relisted probably due to non paying bidder or fake bid. I could think of better ways to spend 6k rather than this coin.

I'd suggest don't do it. You're buyin $3200 worth of gold only. There have been an awful lot of posts littered throughout this forum by people who have purchased numismatic items like this and other sets and when they come to selling them down the track they are unable to sell coin/s for anything other than bullion value. - You might recall many discussions about The Perth Mint items whose 'numismatic' price is a heck of a lot more than bullion price. - You'd be buying this coin on speculation I'd imagine - that price would hit $3000 an ounce and you'd be breaking even.

6k can get you a choice uncirculated 2000 dollar mule. Much better investments if you ask me. Cheers

I can't speak for the value-for-money of this particular coin - after all, the seller is selling it for the same price the Perth Mint is selling them for. My main worry is about this particular seller; they've stolen the pics and sales spiel directly from the Perth Mint website they "found". I see no evidence they actually own an example of this coin. If you must pay $6000 for an overpriced piece of gold, I'd recommend buying it direct from the Perth Mint, rather than trusting an unknown seller on ebay.

I'll be blunt. I'm not sure what the seller is doing. He has just dropped the price to $3,500 - just over spot. I'm with SAP, does he really own this coin? ... Though if it was inherited, who knows ---> Though who would purchase a $6,000 coin on their deathbed? ... Though he could be skint and just looking for quick cash - afterall, if he didn't buy it himself and was his mothers, then hey, it's $3,500 for nothing
