Doesn't the "profit-driven" argument work both ways?

Since 1937 SP-65 matte specimens are worth far less than MS-65 business strikes, if the 1937 matte specimen was actually a toned business strike then simple greed logic would have seen attempts to destroy the "specimen" designation long ago.
