Hmmmm. I narrowed it down to 10 coins and have spent the past hour debating which ones to post....

In the spirit of having something flying:-

Sinope, Paphlagonia, Silver Drachm
Obv:- Head of nymph left, hair in sakkos, wearing triple pendant earring and necklace
Rev:- Eagle with dolphin in talons facing left, ∆ΙΟΥ (magistrate's name) below wing, ΣΙΝΩ below dolphin
Sinope mint, c. 330 - 300 B.C.
Ref:- SNG BM 1484; SNG Stancomb 772; SNG Cop 284

Smackdown-#3-=>-Coins-That-Fly-=>-Send-'Em-In!!

I had a few eagles and owls and decided on the following eagle. Quite a static pose on this one though.

Ptolemaic Kingdom, Ptolemy VI Philometor, 180-145 B.C., Ar Tetradrachm
Obv:-- Diademed head of Ptolemy I right wearing aegis
Rev:- PTOLEMAIOY BASILEOS, eagle standing left, head left, on thunderbolt, wings closed
Minted in Alexandria, B.C. 180-145
Reference:-- Svoronos 1489, SNG Cop 262

This is going to be a tough one, there are so many beautiful coins posted so far. I just picked two from my collection not that they will stand a chance with the rest.

=> that's what it's all about => sharing and getting to show-off our coins that otherwise would be sitting alone in a dark, cold safe!! (man, it's a bit of a sad tale, yes?)

Jerry, just a couple of thoughts (I know that's hard to comprehend for you). Before you announce another topic for the next smackdown, perhaps you might think about limiting it to a once or twice per week event and allowing more time for voting. Perhaps we could attract some non-ancient collectors to participate in the voting process by doing an advertisement on the other forums. It would be nice to read what collectors of other coins think about our favorites.

I wonder if we could mark the winning images much like they do at Forum coins Best of Type. Just thinking (again, a foreign topic for you) out loud.

Hey Lexter ... how is it hangin'?

=> yah, I was meaning to pull you aside and discuss such an option ... ya see, in a couple of days from now, we're gonna be heading-off on our summer vacation back to my hometown of Victoria, BC, "Canada" (yipppeeeee) ....

anyway, initially I was thinking that whoever wins "tomorrow night's" SMACKDOWN #4 could take the family keys and could run the next SMACKDOWN #5 ... and they could morph the game however they please ......... ummm, unless "you yourself" would like to take-over the SMACKDOWN thingy? (yah, I've noticed that when you're not crouched-over trying to squeeze pennies outta your butt, you're actually a fairly good/leadership/funny kinda personality ... and you would probably be pretty good at keeping something like this going forward) ...

... otherwise, like I said, we could merely turn-over the reins to Willie McNillie ... I'll be gone anyway, so I'll have zero-clue what is happening to my spawn ...

First time I was stationed in Germany, one of the officers always brought his German Shorthair named Nate to work with him. He would occasionally place a desired treat on the dogs nose and walk away for extended periods of time. Not once did the dog take the treat until he was told to. I'm an animal lover, but dogs are the greatest.
