I recently bought some 2011w's not proofs, when I check out PCGS price guide I see a lot of different 2011 w coins. I get the guide is only for graded coins that they have graded. But they have 2 of the same coins, but one has () around w, 2011-(w), the other is just 2011-w, what is the difference? Except the $10 in price between them. Also if I would send them in for grading, which number would they get, the one with the W in parentheses? These would not be first strikes, or 25th anniversery. So why the two different coin#'s? What does the ( ) mean around the mimtmark in the price guide? And how do I know which coins I got?

Granted these are not "w" mint coins but it will show you the difference in striking methods.

In re reading your post I think the difference is the bullion struck coin is the 2011 (w) stating it was struck at west point but does not carry a mint mark.

One is for the bullion coin which would be the (W) and the other is the uncirculated coin being the W.

(W) implies it was minted at west point but does not have a mint mark so that would be the common bullion coin.

If your coin is not a proof and has the W mint mark then it is the uncirculated coin. Hope that helps.

Yes the info from both of you helped greatly. I bought 5 with the w mintmark for $32 each with free shipping for a total of $160. Now I know I got a good deal as each coin is valued at $43 by pcgs even in ms 63. Maybe if they are perfect I'll send em for grading hope for 69's or 70's!
