OK, I tried to attribute this Drachm, but am having some difficulty. I guess I need some help here. Thanks

That's a nice one jw. I like the amount of wear it has.

The letters read ALEXANDR? Don't know much about these myself.

Real nice bust of Herakles!
I believe the crossed legs on Zeus indicate it's a posthumous issue--correct me if I'm wrong.
I have not found a match for the monogram--could it be Arados mint?

Hey DVC. I thought you were the expert on these things. I cannot seem to find the monogram either, and I've looked at an awful lot of coins. Is there any source you prefer to check first? I jumped right in buying this coin w/o researching it first. I have purchased a lot of Roman coins from this seller so I feel confident it's genuine. I just need to attribute it.

Honestly, I hadn't considered the possibility of a copy--nothing bad stands out, so I didn't check FORVM or ForgeryNetwork. I looked at Wildwinds, but not exhaustively. With my Greeks, I don't expect as detailed an attribution as for Roman coins--although some are pretty obvious as to where they are minted.

I posted this over on Forum's attribution board and was rewarded with the following:

Abydos mint, something like this probably (forepart of Pegasos left)...

Looking at Price 1505 on Wildwinds, I think this is a match. Do you agree? http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/gree...ice_1505.jpg

Why didn't I think of Abydos?
Yeah--the monogram is sure a match, and the style of Herakles looks very similar too.

I sold my only Drachm recently - great looking coins, know very little about them unfortunately.

Incredible to think its been around for 2300 years.
