Hello all,
This is one of my greatest finds, today on a wim I decided to stop in an Antique shop couple towns over. I walked in asked what they had for coins, then gentleman directed me to a few US Morgan dollars and pre-1965 silver quarters...the usual. Then I had to do it, I had to ask, do you have any ANCIENT coins? The guy said, "ugh I might have one in my desk", 5ft away he tossed it over to me and told me its mine for a $20 bill. Made a quick decision and here it is. I did a quick attribution and came up with T. Quinctius Flamininus, AR denarius, 3.82g c.BC 126. ROMA obverse and Twin horse riders. One old auction discription of the same coin, says that the TQ is the monogram of the moneyers ancestor, the Titus Quinctius Flamininus that defeated, Philip V of Macedon, in the final conquest of the Greeks and Phoenicians. The coin is dated after the death of T. Quinctius Flamininus in approx. BC 174, any other opinions or insights into this coin or others like it?. Anyways I was super thrilled with the find. I wish this happened all the time.
Nate

The coin shop nearest me has done something similar to me, only the coins were not as valuable as this one. I got a very nice Trajan Decius Denarius for free, but felt so bad about it, I went back and offered to pay him. He said He would take half of whatever I said it was worth, so I paid him $25. He keeps my name and telephone number on his bullitin board in case someone has Ancients and wants to get rid of them.

You seem to have another very nice coin here. Congrats (especially on the price).

That's a fantastic coin for $20.
Sometimes antique dealers don't know what they're selling--lucky find!
Compare to this coin selling for $155.

Wow(s)!! I still think mine is better. :-) I hate asking but if you could stick a market value for mine what would that number be? I usually don't concentrate on collecting Romans I have a few and I have 2 Severn denari in the smackdown. I usually try my hardest to procure Greeks when I can. I can't pass up an opportunity and a price like that, well for just about any ancient coin.

I pulled the trigger on this coin, a tetraobol of Macedon That would be perfect in my collection. It will complement this denarius and my Scipio denarious as well as my Hannibal Helm.... I cant wait to have it in hand....Macedonia, Philip V & Perseus. 187-168 B.C. AR Silver Tetrobol, 2.11g
check it out....

Yeeehhhaaaa! => I love your coin!!

... ummm, I spend quite a bit on some coins, but I have seven pretty nice Roman Republics, but when I just added them up and determined and average value => it was pretty close to $200 each!!

=> so I'd say that $20 is a pretty good deal, diggity-dawg!!

I actually get a little peeved to see that some of you guys bag such bargains, maybe that says something about me (that I always end up paying mid-price) but it also says something about the quality of the coins in this forum.

That coin for $20 is rediculous, a fantastic price and a fantastic coin! Congratulations!

Yes thank you it was the best use of 20 bucks In this life I have. On the other hand I added a link to a tetraobol I bought but have not received yet that compliments this coin.
