My father has had a coin/paper money collection for a long time and he recently gave it to me. This is by far the oddest thing in it and it was just sitting in a clear sleeve unidentified. From the research I've done, it may be a Spanish American coin. I cant really identify the year, my best guess is either 1603 or 1663, the 3 might even be a 2 or the 0 might even be an 8. I can clearly see the REX HISPANIA RVM on one side, but the other side I can't really make out what's going on.

The coin is very non-photogenic and these were the absolute best I could get, it doesn't shine like any silver coin and it doesn't look like copper. It almost has a gritty feel to it when you run your finger over the part that wasn't printed on, the printed on part feels smooth. I also haven't seen a coin from the era that is this small in my research. The size is nearly identical to a US dime, maybe very slightly smaller.

I've looked and now I'm stumped. Basically I'd like to know what it is and if it's worth anything. Chances are I'll keep it in the collection but it's good to know. Thanks!

TheFyaaa,
I think this is probably a 2 maravedi copper coin (with a lot of verdigris).

Value depends on the date and the mint of which there are many, but it's a nice piece of history.

After some research that looks exactly like what it is, though mine may be a bit smaller than the others. The other thing I cant figure out is the year. Right now I'm going between 1603, 1605, maybe even 1609? Trying to find other coins of those years to compare the bottom area of the last digit and I just can't tell
