I'm thinking about buying a set 1986-2012 that are all in mint boxes. Then send them to pcgs to get graded. Am I wrong thinking worst case they all grade 69; but if I get a few 70's it will make it worthwhile.

My goal is to get a whole set and I'm thinking this might be cheaper than buying 1 at a time.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but yes youre wrong thinking the worse theyll come back is a 69.

Youre also not guaranteed to get any 70s.

Its hard to say what youll get without seeing every coin but youd almost certainly get a 68 or 67 in there especially on the older ones.

Its cheaper to just buy it already graded. If you dont hit the 70 each coin will be worth less than you paid + grading fees. Some of the 69s you could break even on probably but thats about it.

If youre chasing 70s its still cheaper to just buy it, and if you like 68/67 ect its again cheaper to just buy them.

Weve almost all chased this dream at one point or another, only to learn a tough lesson. I know I did.

I forgot to add. A website is selling whole set graded 69 pcgs for $1850. Some auctions have whole set mint boxes for $1900.

Early years it's though to buy 70's paying 250-400 or more a coin.

Pcgs fees would be around $400.

Would put me in at like $85 each coin

You can mix all you want.

I personally like the PCGS slabs better and dont like having different slabs so I stick to all PCGS coins but you can do whatever. PCGS and NGC are the two big dogs now followed by ANACS. I would stick to those three or PCGS and NCG if you dont mind the different slabs

After two years I am 4 coins away from completing my Proof Eagle Set. I kept leaving it and going back to it but I am glad it is almost finally complete. I always just bought the raw coins in the OGP. Buy the coin, not the slab. The coins look perfect to me and if one day I ever try to sell them, I would rather have the person I'm selling to think he could get PF70 if he ships them out, instead of me shipping them out and getting PF68.

Let us know how it goes. Good luck in the quest.

Good pick up with the 2012 set too. Quality on it seems to be very down this year from other members stories and even the websites are saying theyre getting a lot less 70s than they had planned on
