to the forum!

What does it weigh? A normally struck 1966 quarter should weigh 5.67 grams, or maybe just slightly less depending on wear.

Could you provide pics of both sides of the whole coin?

Thank you for the fast reply and the warm welcome!

The quarter weighs a wee bit less...5.51 g not a huge significance. We do have more pics. I will have my husband post them asap. But I will tell you the edge has the gold tone with a light line copper. Just weird.

We have scoured the Internet looking for anything similiar and even remotely close was a nickel planchet but coin weighs more.

Thanks for the help!

It could be discolored. Or it could be a struck counterfeit. These are often struck on copper or copper-alloy planchets that are plated before the strike.

Since the weight is so close to what it is supposed to weigh, I'd guess you have a normally struck quarter that is discolored with a bit of wear.

If it were struck on a five-cent planchet, it wouldn't have this and it would only weigh 5 grams.
