Looking for second opinion on grade, value and authenticity. Want to make sure there's not something I'm overlooking.

Looks like an F12 with a light (market acceptable) cleaning. A $2,000 coin minimum if genuine. PCGS and NGC certified F12 pieces regularly bring $3,000.

P.S. The rim bruise at 4:00 reverse could land it in a problem holder. This coins needs to be sent to a top TPG.

Don't know if I want to chance a problem holder where this one may very well end up in my Morgan Dansco This makes 83% filled.

Would you still go for the holder?

The coin looks authentic to me. If you already own it and aren't worried, toss her in the Dansco.

A trip to ANACS would confirm authenticity and you could crack it out of the holder afterwards.

I don't see anything that would make me suspicious. The date and mintmark appear to be in the correct style and position. There are two key diagnostics in RT of Liberty. They might be hard to see but on genuine example there are two die chips in the left base of R and a die scratch in the center of the top bar of T. This article has a picture showing the diagnostics. It appears to grade around a F-12 but I think it is more likely to come back with a details grade because of the rim bump and possibly the light cleaning on the reverse. I agree this should be sent to a TPG just to confirm authenticity.

Looks genuine and F-12 details. Good size rim bump at 4 O'Clock on reverse and it has been cleaned. With this coin being so expensive even in low grades and the number of counterfeits and altered coins out there, you need to get this one slabbed no matter what the grade may be.

Thanks for the article DoubleEagle. The diagnostics mentioned check out under high magnification. Is there a way to get a TPG to authenticate without mailing it off? Local offices?

If they are set up at a coin show that you attend, I sure you could get them to give an "opinion".

I am not sure if they have multiple offices in the U.S. Do check each of the major TPG websites to see if they are attending any shows near you. You might be able to submit through one of their representatives or have it graded on site. Given that you say the diagnostics check out, I am confident it is genuine but it would be still a good idea to have it slabbed just in case a situation arises where it needs to be sold.
