Good afternoon everyone.

I am looking at having a recent purchase officially graded. I've never done this before and I was wondering if there was any advice as to how to proceed. I am after an experts opinion of the coin.

Any advice?

Thanks,
Terry McManus

If I were you, I would post a pic here first. Grading companies have become pretty crazy lately with "market grading". Maybe we could give you a good idea on how to proceed and which company to use.

To push the discussion a little further, I am excited about getting 5 of my coins graded as well.

1) If I were to use NGC, is there a link someone can point me to that has an offer for grading 5x 2012 silver coins at once?

2) How would I send them? Each in an envelope (in a case of course) with the grading request?

The unknown possibilities are a little fearsome for a first timer!

Place the coins individually in 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 non-pvc flips. Using a felt tip marker, place the number of the coin corresponding with the number on the submittal sheet (especially if submitting more than one of the same date/type of coin). Be as specific as possible with your descriptions (date/mm/grade/attribution/etc...). Package/pad your coins very carefully and more towards extra than not enough padding. I placed my flips in one of those corrugated folding shipping holders and then in a padded shipping envelope inside a padded box. I am fairly certain that the TOP III TPGers have a toll-free phone number in case you have any questions.

Pictures would help identify potential problems with coins that could stymie wasted money.

By all means...post images first!

As already noted, you should post a photo of the coins here first. Many people assume their coins are worth having graded and slabbed then find out they spent more for that service than the coin is worth. At coin shows all the time I see coins in slabs that are selling for a few dollars due to this fact. Prior to having any coin slabbed and graded, first make an attempt to find out what it is really worth.
Also, for more detailed information on how to send coins to a TPGS, simply go to the PCGS or NGC forums and ask the people doing that service. Info right from the horse's mouth so to speak.
