This coin arrived this morning, and it's been polished previously. Despite what the seller's picture seems to convey, it's not dry and porous looking "in hand", and I don't see any sign of environmental damage. It's retoning in a rather ugly fashion though.

My pictures aren't a whole lot more revealing than the seller's, and I'll try some in alternate lighting to see if I can get better ones.

I'd buy this coin again for 34.99, so no regrets.

I know ... never clean 'em. I couldn't stand the toning, so I dropped this into a bowl of diluted ammonia for awhile.

I don't think there are many people who collect on a shoestring, that wouldn't consider this coin for their type set at 35 dollars.

I like it much better now. Eye appeal is a big part of the game for me. It had already been cleaned and polished, so I don't have a shred of guilt over doing it.

For $35 you can't go wrong on a SLH with that much detail remaining, I agree that removing the funky toning has really increased the eye appeal of the coin. The downside that I see is the reverse really shows the numerous gouges much more easily than before. Still it will look really nice in your 7070, especially the obverse. Also its amazing how the coin looks like it has a bit more detail post cleaning.

The coin looks great "in hand" .. remember this is greatly magnified.

Nice coin, note worthy date and great change of appearance. Your last photos do give her justice to the cleaning.
