dougsmit => thanks again for recommending this book (once it arrives, I will definitely critique your book-club recommendation) ...

NOTE => I am going to politely ask my wife to read "Anthony" to me while I'm watching "Antiques Roadshow" on TV (I've heard that multimedia bombardment is a very effective method of learning a new skill)

Oh and coincidentally, David Sear's "Greek Coins and their Values, Volume II (Asia & Africa)" arrived in the mail today ... plus, I am still expecting three more books within the next week (including your "Anthony" suggestion) ... man, she's gonna be doing a whole lotta reading!!

Sear is not a 'reader' but a reference helping you to see a few samples from what exists. Anthony is a cover to cover, straight through experience.

thanks dougsmit ... wow, now I am really looking forward to getting the book!!

NOTE => yah, I sure hope that "Anthony" is a better read than Sear's "Greek Book of Values", because when my wife was reading it to me, she found it extremely difficult to do all of the voices associated with the all of the different Greek coins!! ... but holy smokes => her Athena-voice was bang-on!!

Doug- My "Anthony" Book came from Tacoma Washington GoodWill and its still crispy!! It was just handed to me by the mail man. I thumb through it quickly and I can't wait to dive in. Its got a lot of great coins in it,good thing because I only read books that have pictures.

I will be disappointed if you find the pictures are the best part. I won't tell you which parts I liked best but it was somewhere in the first 42 chapters.

dougsmit => man, thank you very much => I am lovin' this "Anthony" book so far!!

... it is a pretty good read for a coin book "and" whenever it mentions a coin, it gives a ref-number which allows you to flip ahead and check-out the reference-photo (again, so far it is an awesome book) ... $12 well spent!!

You are welcome. While I see a number of coin books that I don't consider worth buying or obsolete, there are still many that are full of meat. When we get a chance to pick them up as used books rather tan rare limited editions, we should. I am regularly amazed by the range of prices for the same book on Amazon.
