just thinking about the comments made by markn regarding getting hold of coins good enough to slab.
He said even opening mint rolls is no guarantee of getting really nice coins.
I imagine that it is even harder to find really nice ones now that coins are no longer in rolls. Being transported loose must really take a toll.
What I would like to know is:
How much harder is it to find really outstanding (choice unc?/perfect) coins which were transported in bags vs. rolled?

When modern business strikes are minted they tumble into a huge tub.
Rolls or baggies really make little difference as the damage has already been done

The commemorative 20c rolls you can buy from the RAM (and Australia Post) are a perfect example of this. The coins are bagged up by the RAM and sent to another company for rolling in their fancy wrappers. The quality of the coins in the rolls is shocking, MS64 is about where they top out.

Hi there here in the usa I have been collecting cent rolls for years I have 1 gem bu roll of every year 1943 - present sometimes even with brand new rolls it will take going through over 100 rolls of a particular year and mint mark to get one roll of gem bu. some years are even harder like 1983-d was a 8 year project

The ONLY coins I have got from the mint in excellent condition are the proof sets and the other proof NCLT offerings.
It is an absolute shame that the mint are unwilling to treat their business strike mint sets with the same care they take with the proof coins.
They charge the premium for the mint sets so they should take due care to produce a superior product in the mint sets to the general circulation coins.

I'll second everything Trout says here. The quality of non-proof RAM offerings are awful.
