Hey, all. I have been looking for information about how to value National Notes and it seems all you can find on google are people looking for National Notes.

Considering all National Notes are not star notes and small size 1929:
How exactly should you price different States/Towns when purchasing them? I already know some states are more rare, like:
Montana
North Dakota
Nevada
Wyoming
Hawaii
Etc...

It seems that a lot of smaller towns will have good notes, low serial numbers, limited known quantity, and may only sell for $200. Then there will be another note from a smaller town/rarer state and people are wanting $500-$100 for them.

I know there is a Kelly Blue Book on these things, but I wonder how relaible it is when determining value. A couple months ago I scored a Missoula, Montana national note (home state) for $250 on ebay. I have been watching ebay like a hawk and every Montana National Notes I can find are BIN for $500+

I have tried sending offers, but they never seem to like what I offer. Is this just a scenerio or people holding onto their notes until they find a buyer who really wants it? I have been looking for other states that are considered rare, but I get too scared of throwing $500 at something that may be a pain to get value back on later in life if I ever choose to sell.

Any input would be appreciated.
Rest in Peace

The kelly book is the standard referance used to price nationals. Your best bet is to pick one up. It lists all of the known banks organized by state.

I own a few nationals, but really can't offer you too much insight into the pricing. There were a lot of charters and pricing for them varies greatly. A lot of people who collect them specialize in certain charters or states. My suggestion is to do your homework. Sites like Heritage and yes even ebay can offer you a range people are willing to pay for them. There really isn't any other way but to invest time into it.

Unfortunately, you are asking about a very broad & complex area of collecting! Because there were more than 14,000 issuing banks all over USA!

Anyway, please PM me providing your e-mail & I'll send you the list.

Cheers
