I found this crown when I was going through my collection. I must have bought it a long time ago, and I can't for the life of me remember what grade it was when I bought it.

Any opinions as to the grade? Also, any opinions as to whether it has been cleaned? I'm a little bit suspicious about whether it has been dipped/cleaned. Thanks for looking.

Looks like a nice unc or even a ChUnc...as to being cleaned I hate to judge silver from a scan as light can play a big part in appearance. I am happy for you to send it to me (yes I will return it) if you like for a professional opinion if you like.
Rest in Peace

Nice coin Snooba. I wish I'd forgotten about coins like that and then found them! Looks like an UNC to me. The kings face looks clean. I cant really see the orb on the crown in enough detail though. Have any bigger pictures?

I wish I had a better picture, but this scan is the best that I could do! I have been sitting here trying to rack my brains to come up with when and where I bought this coin. So I started looking through my cheque-book, and bingo, I remembered how I got it in my collection.

I bought it off an ebay seller about one-and-a-half-years ago. I bid on, and won, a Very Fine 1937 crown for $23.00, however when the seller went to post me my coin, he accidentally posted me his 1938 crown instead. So when he emailed me (quite frantically) to ask me to please send his 1938 crown back to him so that he could send me the correct crown, I assured him that I would.

When it arrived, I didn't even open the package, I just put it into another larger envelope and sent it back to him. He emailed me to tell me that he was so grateful to me that he was sending me a much better crown as a thank you. I didn't even pay much attention to it when it did finally arrive, as I honestly expected that I would still get a coin worth only $23.00, so it has sat in the very back of my collection unnoticed.

It is only now, that I am more familiar with grading that I started to wonder about the value of this crown. I studied it, looked at the lustre which makes a lovely cart-wheel glow all over the coin, looked at it under the magnifying glass and finally decided that it was possibly aUnc or maybe even Unc, but I really wanted opinions that were more knowledgeable than mine.

Well, there's my boring story for the day! And thanks for all the opinions and advice!

The strike is superb and the patina looks natural, but like bigfella said it it is hard to tell with silver. Nice coin!
