After looking at and reading about all of the great coins posted in my "Do you know where your coin is from?" thread, I got real interested in obtaining a Roman coin from a (preferably named) hoard. Unfortunately not too many nice ones were out there for very cheap; a few certainly were within my budget but they weren't really that attractive. Settled on this Gallienus with Sol on the reverse. The hoard it came from wasn't named unfortunately, but from what the seller said, it was from a fairly large hoard that reached the market several years ago. Gallienus antoninianus Obv: GALLIENVS AVG, radiate and cuirassed bust right Rev: SOLI INVICTO, Sol standing left with right hand raised and holding globe in left hand, PXV in ex, Asian mint (does anyone know what city it could have been?  ), RIC 611  Yes, that is silvering you see still on the coin  Edited by VisigothKing

PXV in ex, Asian mint (does anyone know what city it could have been? ),
It's from Antioch, Gobl 1655b.

Thanks echizento for your comment and thanks Eddop for answering my question. I had a feeling Antioch would be the most likely, since I have antoniniani of his father and wife from there.

PXV is short for TR P XV.

And oh yeah. That is a very nice coin. I also have a Gallienus coin with PXV in exergue.  Gallienus Billon Antoninianus. Mint of Asia. GALLIENVS AVG, radiate, draped & cuirassed bust right / AETERNITAS AVG, Saturn standing right holding scythe, PXV (short for TR P XV) in ex. Cohen 44. RIC V-1 (S) 606. TR P XV is Tribunician year 267 AD. Edited by Gil-galad

Nice coin, especially the reverse. I had never seen the PXV in exergue before, but all the coins I find with that in exergue are listed as Asian mint. And Gil-galad is correct in it's meaning. Once again, nice coin.

Both are nice coins but this is an exceptional Saturn for those of you looking to have that god in your collection.
