Just received an update on five Morgans I sent out for grading. One of them says AU Details Improperly cleaned. I did not clean this coin so it was done in its past, does it really affect the value when its graded AU? Just wondering, still trying to learn.

I would just be happy with the 03s and the 96s....the rest is gravy...

Yes, cleaning affects the value. It depends on how harsh the cleaning is on the coin's surface. It could be a simple dipping w/ reduction of luster or if it was rubbed and now has hairlines.

The only time cleaning wouldnt affect the value is if the only value is from bullion

Oh wait, those are not 96s and 03s, they are without mint marks. That is the way NGC types up the chart, S$1. If you look, they all have it, I just copy/pasted the chart sorry.
