Looks in pretty darn good shape to me, Jerry. I have 6 days left on the wagon. I think I forgot why I'm on the wagon. Hmmm. Now what was it I was not suppose to do?

A very nice coin with good centering and good relief on the head side where these can be quite shallowly struck. Thanks for showing it to us.

When a coin calls to you, there is no defense!
It is a "sign" that the coin wants you to take custodianship for a while.
Precious few coins ask me to take care of them.
You have the honor, and the responsibility, to do so.
Enjoy it while you can.

While you are not buying coins, do some research and see the explanation given to some of these Ptolemaic coins having two eagles and others only one. I've never gone deep enough into it to see if the theory holds in all cases but I do find it an interesting point.

dougsmit => I finished my homework assignment (now can I go outside and buy more coins?!!)

Quote:
"Why was the image of dual eagles placed on so many Ptolemaic coins during various times?"

Two hypotheses have been presented to account for two-eagle Ptolemaic coinage:

A. Two eagles indicate a denomination.

B. Two eagles indicate a co-regency.

Here is a great link that gives more details:

dougsmit => thanks for the interesting lead (I love discovering the behind-the-scenes info regarding these wonderful ol' coins) ...

Ummm, so if I believe in the Co-Regency theory, then the co-regency during the time of "my" coin was between "Cleopatra III and Ptolemy X" (a mother-son relationship) ...

... dougsmit => is that how you read the info? (or am I off-base?)

Quote:
By 107 BC Cleopatra III had managed to establish her favorite son as co-regent. However, Ptolemy X's relationship to his mother was certainly not without serious problems. In 101 BC he had his domineering mother killed

=> man, these ol' coins and their scandals never cease to amaze me!!
