I need help with this one.

A reverse design was struck on the obverse side but which design I can't tell. It appears to be the VOT V MVLT type but I haven't been able to match one up. Unfortunately the reverse and the mint mark are not clear.

How does the reverse get struck on the obverse side without the obverse being on the reverse, or is the obverse design faintly there facing left?

Some other odd things to note:

1) S in lower center field of the reverse above exergue, (possibly in same area on the obv.)

2) Possible letter in left field on obverse.

3) First string of letters in the obv. legend seems to end with E...? (but maybe that's from the reverse legend?)

The attribution of this coin presents a challenge beyond me. Any thoughts would be welcome and appreciated.

Thanks

Thats an awesome coin! My guess is that it was accidentally put back in the die and nobody noticed/gave half a darn.

Doucet,

Looks like you got a double struck coin, very cool, haven't seen to many Roman err coins, but it looks one to me..

The coin belongs to Magnentius with two victories holding a shield with VOT V MVLT X.

The coin is a flip over double strike but the lack of an obverse on the reverse might mean the first strike was a brockage or a case with two flans stuck together for one strike. Especially with the coin so encrusted, I'd not swear to any details like that without a lot more looking at it.

I see it now. The first strike was a brockage since we see the incuse VOT V and the normal both. Want to sell/trade?

Man, it's amazing how easy these things are to find when somebody tells you what they are.

Thanks Dougsmit

Mine could be the SP version.
