hi everyone,
as little as I know about roman coins, I know even less about parthian and celtic coins....so I could use some help here.

i picked these up on ebay for 5.50 including shipping, so I guess 2.75 each. so if they aren't real, or aren't worth anything, I'm not to worried about it. I do hope they're real, I think they're pretty neat.

the seller included the following info written on the flip, didn't ask for more details, I believe they were from his father who had passed away and he stated he didn't know much about them.

indoparthian, circra 100ad, bust of king r. (couldn't find a parthian king that began with r), minerva stgr (?)

celtic britian, durotriges tribe, 60bc-20ad

my picture of the other side didn't come out, but there isn't much to see anyway...smooth with a bump.

i did find this coin on wildwinds, is this it?

Parthian/Celtic-Coin-Help-Please

here's what wildwinds lists for the type...

VA 1260 Durotriges Billon 1/4 Stater. 40-35 BC. Third Geometric Type. Obverse worn blank / seated figure(?).

I opened Spinks to Durotriges...

The Durotriges inhabited West Hampshire, Dorset and adjoining parts of Somersset and Wiltshire. Their coinage is one of the most distinctive in Britain due it its rapid debasement. The disappearance of precious metals from the coinage should perhapss be linked to the lack of trade with the south-west and western Gaul following the Roman conquest of Gaul. Hengistbury Head is the probable mint site of the cast bronzes, Coins inscribed crab have been traditionally associated with the tribe.

It has three entries for Quarter Stater and a photo which has a reverse similar though not exactly the same as yours the other side has a spiral pattern but the entry says Quality of metal varies, obv, almost blank on later issues.

I couldnt attribute any accurately to your coin but it could be Spinks 369 possibly... "369 Starfish type. Spiral R. Zig zag pattern M 320; V. 1270; BMC 2780-81 (61A)

It's an out of date Spinks 2002 and says fine £50 and Very Fine 160.

I hope there was something within that which was useful :)
