I've decided to start a silver 50c collection and my interest is in the 1937-58 design.

I would like to know which dates I should be able to find the cheapest, and what dates should I be looking for?

What is a good price for a non-key date silver 50c 1937-1958?

Any guidance is appreciated

1948 will be your most expensive in that range. If you're not too worried about grade you can get most of these on ebay for spot silver or a buck or two more. Also, many years in that range have narrow and wide date varieties as well as the odd pointed vs blunt etc if you're interested. I have a number of spares, mostly in F-EF. PM me if you like.

thanks everyone, I'm on my way, just picked up a 1941 50c for $10 in VF.

Is that a good price? or average?

That's what you can expect to pay with silver at the price it is today. For most years you'll pay spot silver price for VF or lower. Enjoy!

Excellent series to start with and very affordable. You can buy most pieces in this series in I.C.C.S., MS-64's for very little on E-bay.
