Found this roll hunting today. Curious what you guys think of it and how to grade it. Going insane not being able to take good pictures yet. I may invest in a usb microscope after all as even though this time the reflection wasnt the problem that was as close as I could get to the coin and still get in focus even in macro mode.

MS63

USB microscopes are no good for whole coin pics. Work on your lighting and white balance.

Ok thanks for the comment on microscopes, I was just working through that option so I'll pass on that for now. Save me another 70 bucks lol.

Whats MS63 mean or where is a chart/intro on how to interpret that? Is that good? :D

Thanks!

I googled "MS63 1949 Lincoln Wheat cent value" for the sake of experimenting and the first link on my results is a slabbed coin from what seems like an auction site where the coin sold for 6.90. Can that be right? Or was that a way over inflated price or is that a different coin.

The website is davidlawrence.com though I dont wanna post a link because I'm not sure I'm allowed yet or not. (Have to check my post count and the rules again).

The serial number on the slab is "#1949 1c PCGS MS63 RD" what does the RD mean? I read somewhere in my google rambling that there is a 'red' cent. is that a different coin? Or is that just a nickname for this coin?

I cant imagine my coin being worth 6.90 considering other googles turned it up at being worth 3 to 7 cents depending on how MS63 translates into good to very fine.

Thanks for any help!

Cents are graded brown (BN), red-brown (RB) or red (RD). This pertains to luster of the coin. Full red coins command a premium. MS63 stands for Mint State.

In my opinion, your coin looks cleaned. The wheat grains are not distinct, and the stems appear to be almost absent. Lincoln's cheek seems to have wear or polishing. But don't get me wrong, a very nice find in a roll! Could be some die grease going on. I'm far from an expert on Lincolns.

Hehe ok. Didnt expect to see a 'cleaned' coin back into circulation, learn something new every day. I'll check out that link later. I'm going to compile a list of links people keep giving me and put them on a wiki for myself, may even put my collection on a wiki.

Again thanks. Soooo much information to process around here. Wow! :D
