I think this would have been a real keeper. Vespasian, first issue of 71 with full name VESPASIANVS: IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG P M T P P P COS III, bust laureate r. resting on globe and with aegis on shoulder FIDES EXERCITVVM, S C in ex. , clasped hands before legionary eagle on prow. The obverse die is A23 in Colin Kraay's unpublished Oxford dissertation, the rev. die P75. Kraay didn't know this die combination, but it is recorded by RIC 70 from a single specimen in the Termopolio Hoard from Pompeii, published in 1997.These are rare types: only one other obv. die of the issue shows this combination of aegis and globe for the bust, and this is the only rev. die of the FIDES EXERCITVVM type used in the issue, though a second such die was used later in the year with Vespasian's name abbreviated VESPASIAN (no -VS).

I didn't have any nice or rare suitable coins with ONE little problem but I found a couple of 'if only's' I have with 'one bigger problem'. I don't know if they really qualify but I thought I'd post them anyway. If only the detail was genuine! Second coin If only it wasn't "lost in the mail!"

my entry #2: An Augustus AEGYPTO CAPTA denarius would be a very historical (and expensive) coin. This is a silver-plated ancient imitation. If only it were official!

Unfortunately most of my coins fall into this category! This one I find particularly sad though. Constantine SOLI INVICTO COMITI from Trier. Good details but let down by the bronze disease damage around Sols globus. The BD returned after I bought the coin so it had to be treated again, hopefully for the last time.

I am seeing the error of my ways deciding to extend #XII to avoid closing over Labor Day Weekend but what is done is done. I regret that so many posts missed the point of the single flaw turning a really nice coin into a sorrow. I encourage those who select future topics to select easier ones.

GOLD - Dionysis' funky elephant
SILVER -Augustus1's Julia mesa - she needs some spot cream.
BRONZE - TJS' chipped in half coin - I am a sucker for that reverse type, pity to see it broken.
Honourable Mention: That Vespasian clasped hands coin is great - a veryr are and desirable reverse, such a pity its so badly preserved.
