Rum I'll respect you if you come clean and be honest. Just admit those are all your auctions and you posted on here using two ID's. Very obvious they came from the same person - identical writing style.

You're flat out wrong... Dave was just trying to be polite, but I'm not in the mood to be.

Very bizarre thread. Rum posted a unique picture of a coin that CCF members attributed. Immediately thereafter, Chamblee posted an auction on ebay with a different photo of the same coin and the CCF attribution. CCF members spotted this and alerted ebay. Immediately following that, Rum got very defensive and concocted a story that photos from his dad must have been stolen. Immediately following that, Chamblee showed up here as a new member and posted he was not associated with Rum. Chamblee then posted yet another photo of the coin to "prove" it was his and not Rums. Rum followed up by claiming that he got the photo from some other ebay member who presumably sold the coin to Chamblee.

And at the end of that utterly bizarre sequence, CCF administrations accuse me of being "flat out wrong" for speculating that these two individuals may be one and the same. The reason given is, presumably, that the IP addresses they use to post are from different geographical regions. That's reasonable but let me cite that there are 5000 or so anonymous proxies out there on the Internet that allow IP address to be masked. Using one of them is as simple as going to browser settings and configuring a proxy. The type of person who tries to scam people on ebay would be very familiar with that and other methods of preserving anonymity particularly if the merchandise were stolen.

You speak truth, fenton. It's not like we're unaware of that truth. Some IP lookups are far better than others; fortunately in this case, the ones we have are among the most-certain due to the provider. ebay location assignments are not based on the originating IP, but on their confirmed location of the member. They can be trusted.

I want to thank you for forcing me to reveal far more of our operational procedure than I ever wished to, just to shut you up.

SsDd . . I really enjoy this forum for the "lively discussions" that sometimes erupt. Thank you and the other moderators for the fine jobs you do controlling them.

Now that you've chimed in, BadThad, there's no one more qualified to tell us whether verdigris was removed from the reverse of this coin, and whether more was removed after leaving its prior slab. What do you think?

We are well aware of how IP addresses and proxies work. And just an FYI, there's probably more than 5,000 in Pakistan alone. We have tools for this.

Chamblee56 was sent an email by one of our members with a link and gave us a heads up, when he got here his general area was mapped to almost 700 miles from where the auction stated. When confronted privately about this discrepancy we were ignored. If he was going to use a proxy here, he would have made those match.

rum_n_cola then fesses up and points to the seller from which he got the pictures he posted. General area of those listings matches Chamblee56 general area.

Conclusions should be fairly consistent across the board.

rum_n_cola gets a two week vacation. Don't think I need to explain the other guy.
