matthewvincent Pillar of the Community United States 3486 Posts	Posted 09/03/2012 10:22 am It is a fine 12 per these features: 1) The "E" and the "R" are visible. 2) The knot in the bow at the bottom of the reverse shows a complete band. 3) The kernels in the ear of corn show, although weakly. The grade may drop to VG-10 if: 1) You are fussy about "LIBERTY". (I am!) 2) You judge the weakness of "United" to be a flaw. Note: the dentals are as strong as the rest of the left hand side. If "United" was poorly struck in the beginning, it would be uncharacteristic as this date and mint are well struck. The scratches are NOT to be considered in grading the coin. They DO affect the market value. Report this Post to the Staff
