....This turned up 2 days ago. Amid all the large cents and the2 cent pieces that this particular field has produced, this is the only modern coin aside from a couple ratty indian heads. No,it's not a US coin .. but some here have followed what I pull from the dirt with some interest, hence the decision to post it here.

I didn't have my glasses on when I dug it, and until I saw the crown on the reverse, I wasn't at all sure what I'd dug.

Still not the triumph I am seeking, but I decided to keep it anyway. Not the best pictures, but good enough for what it is.

Odd, that. As I recall, you're not far enough North for this to be a common find.

Right .... I'm 8 miles from West Virginia at the Mason Dixon line. I can count all of the Canadian coins I've dug in the past 10 years on one hand.

One of these days ... it'll be that flowing hair or draped bust coin.

In the 70s, there was a 1795 flowing hair half dollar dug in this town.

It's still a nice find, I'd be happy if I had found it.

I'm actually in Pa ... but the silver holds up way better in this soil. The Canadian Silver 1920 and earlier was .925, which means 2.5% less copper to be attacked by the acidic soil.

I also dug a piece of flint. It's not native to this area, and the Indians walked to Flint Ridge, Ohio to get it, so it's definitely part of a point. It was in a hole that I dug that had a shot shell headstamp or a button in it. I recovered one intact arrowhead in this field last year. That was also an "incidental" find.
