At the Pueblo (Colorado) Coin Show I attended last Saturday, I bought four Canadian dollars. I have a couple questions about the 1965 dollar. First of all, I just assumed from the date and the size that it was silver. Is that true? Is it silver? Secondly, it is uncirculated. In fact I can't find any marks on it at all. So, I'm wondering if it was a good buy at $7? While I'm at it, I would like to ask two other questions. I also bought a 1971 proof British Columbia dollar. I realize it isn't "rare," but I wonder about the mintage. Anybody know how many were minted? Also, was this the only Canadian dollar minted in 1971? Thanks for any help with the above questions.

The '65 dollar is .800 silver.
The '71 B.C. commem. dollar has mintage of 4,140,781 business strikes and 468,729 prooflike coins. This is the one with the shield and flowers reverse. The 1971 B.C. dollar with the shield and animals reverse was only made in specimen (proof) with a mintage of 585,674.

At $7 USD, I would consider that a superb buy. The silver content in the coin itself is $7-$8. (6/10 ounce) Canadian coins in US shows are comparatively cheap!

According to Charlton there were 3 dollar coins minted in 1971.
The circulating nickel dollar ( though hardly any of them ever circulated ) mintage 4,260,781 - with the B.C. coat of arms and dogwood blossoms on the reverse. The collectors nickel dollar mintage 181,091 with the same design as the circulating coin. The collectors silver dollar mintage 585,217 with a design featuring the B.C. coat of arms surrounded by 3 animals ( it looks like a deer,a ram and a lion)
The 1965 is,along with the 1966, the most common silver dollar with the CCN trends showing bullion value up to MS-60 except for the rare varieties.
