Sorry but I do not have a picture, was looking at a SAE that has been slabbed in what looks like a ICG. All seems normal for the green tag ICG but there is a rectangle slot just under the coin, (just under the date), looks like a large screw driver would fit in there. Is this a fake ICG slab? I have a few ICG slabs and none of them look like this nor can I find any on the net. Also, I can not see the back to look for the hollowgram. Thanks for the help, Paul.

Its really impossible to say for sure without a picture.
If you have other icg slabs you know are real and this one looks different I'd stay away just to be safe

OK, here is the auction site and the two pics. If you look at the second pic the coin looks toned and you can see the slot I am talking about. I sit just a trick of the camera, or did I just give away a good priced SAE to the whole CCF?! http://www.ebay.com/itm/27105179050....m1423.l2649

I looked up the serial number on their site and it returned this
"ICG SN Search Results Coin Date: 1999-P Denomination: S$1 Coin CTN: 3686312001 Grade: PR-69-DCAM Details: Silver Eagle"

Yes I understand, I did the same thing, but a counterfeiter would also be smart enough to use a real serial number to make copies of a fake coin in a fake slab. My question is why would this $50 coin have a diferant slab than every other ICG slab that I can find?

It didnt look that different to me. But its also a pretty common coin. I would just move one and find one you dont have any doubts about

Good advice! And that is what I did. I have heard about fake slabs but have not seen any examples yet. I just wonder if that was one of them?

Its possible, I'm not familiar with ICG slabs at all. But my guess would be its real. If you were going to fake a slab why do it for a 69 on a common modern coin. I would think they would have at least made it a 70

I'd say it is real. My guess is the soft inner insert is being compressed by the coin, bulging out and touching the inside of the outer shell creating the dark appearance you see as a slot.

After examining the few ICG slabs I own, I could see the same effect to a lesser degree with smaller coins.
