hi all! So I went out and bought myself another Kodak easyshare. it's a C1550 16MP and I'm once again lost as to how to get the settings right. I tried to use the same directions for my last easyshare. It didn't work. I'm trying to focus an up close of a Morgan which should be easy, but it's not even acting like it's trying. So anyone with the time to spend on my problem will be greatly appreciated! Here is what I currently have the settings on; Flash - off Picture size - 16MP (4:3) Self timer/burst - 10 seconds focus mode - macro Exposure compensation - +1.0 ISO speed - ISO 200 Color mode - full color White balance - Tungsten Focus/exposure - center AF control (still) - Single AF Sharpness - sharp Using two 40W GE Reveal bulbs in adjustable lamps placed above and on either side of the subject coin. I'm pretty sure I did the settings the same on this camera as I did the last one. I'd compare, but.... It took a swim in a rather large puddle and is no longer with us. R.I.P. OK, first question: What's not happening that you want, or what *is* happening that you don't? Are you a proper distance from the coin to allow it to focus? Zoomed all the way out, or not? We'll start there.

The coin is blurry. I have the camera on a tri-pod about 12 inches from the coin. I then zoom in to right before it gets to digital focus. This is the same way I did it with my last easyshare and it worked great. I'm guessing this one being a lot newer is different?

The closest focus might not be at maximum zoom. Try different parts of the zoom range and see if the little macro "flower" icon changes color. Some cameras indicate when they're in the focus range that allows the best closeups.

The closest focus (closest you can get the camera to the coin) will never be with any zoom used. At widest zoom, your minimum focusing distance is 5cm - that's how close you can get that lens to the coin. As you zoom in, you're artificially making the lens "closer" to the coin, and the minimum focusing distance increases. At maximum zoom - zoomed all the way "in" - you can be no less than 40" from the coin.
So, set your stuff 12" from the coin - helps a lot with light - and then starting at widest zoom, steadily shoot images zoomed in a little bit more each time until the camera no longer focuses. That'll tell you the best your camera can do.

Ok, I was able to get the picture quality to my liking. I also got them to load onto the computer (although not to the correct file!) Anyhoo, I also got them to show up on InfanView to edit, crop, resize. Now the problem comes with the computer. It won't let me crop!! I'm using a laptop without a mouse. I think that's the problem. I'm not able to drag the square thing around the coin. Grrrr!

Yeah, you're gonna need a mouse for that.

If you hold down the left pad button and drag on the pad you should be able to crop. It is kinda like a mouse but takes two hands.
