I have no info on this coin or a clue as to where/when it is from. Any help would be appreciated. I don't even know the correct orientation.

It's early Byzantine. Emperor Justin II and Empress Sophia, I believe, in which case "ANNO XII" (Year 12) correlates to AD 575/576. "TES" is the mintmark for Thessalonica. For a couple of similar coins, see this Wildwinds page; scroll down to the ones numbered "366".

Thank you! Now to give coin a nice bath so the grungy stuff come off (yes I've read through the cleaning section ), My daughter is ecstatic with the news.
