reported my auction on ebay and it was pulled. The high bidder won it for 99 cent so ebay saved me money on it by pulling it.

I re-listed it before they pulled it a 9.99 :

This plain edge thing is so overblown that someone thought I was trying to cheat someone out of something. Please read my auction and look at my photo and tell me why ebay pulled my auction for being counterfeit.

Lame, I don't understand it.

this is an error even if it is minor

Interesting effect. Perhaps it could be called the "In Gou We Ihusi" error.

As to why it might have been pulled: perhaps someone thought the coin had been "tooled" or "filed" to make it look like that. Either that, or someone didn't think your error was "erroneous enough" and you were hyping a perfectly ordinary, error-free coin. Either could qualify as a "counterfeit error" as far as the "We Know Nothing" eBaycrats are concerned, I suppose.

Unfortunately, ebay really seems to listen to two classes of people on their site: Sellers with whom you are competing, especially if they are the so-called "Power Sellers", and, as you indicate, idiots. The people who run ebay are, IMHO, among the LEAST knowledgeable about coins that I've ever seen. They will rather consistently over-react to the complaints from said idiots and dealers, and pull auctions without properly researching the claims from the complainant. Sadly, most sellers to whom this happens, are just out of luck. ebay has not shown much willingness to educate themselves, or to "play fair".

I emailed ebay twice about it and just got automated responses.

Basically I am being called a liar and I hate LIARS, so it grates on me.

I feel that I now have a black mark with ebay as well, and want to "clear" my name.

Is there a phone number to call?

Dear Chris,

Thank you for writing ebay in regard to the removal of your George
Washington dollar listing.

We recently received clarification concerning George Washington dollars
that are listed as "errors" if the edge-lettering or edge-inscription
are upside down in relation to the obverse of the coin.

The clarification that we received is that these coins are not errors
but simply a result of the minting process. Part of ebay's
Coins/Currency policy reads, ?Sellers agree not to knowingly participate
in any way in the advertisement, sale or trade of any numismatic
material using any deceptive practices including, but not limited to,
false or misleading claims of sales scarcity, value, condition or
investment potential.?

With this in mind, any George Washington dollars with the inverted
edge-inscriptions that are marketed as "errors" in either the title or
description will be ended and removed from the site.

We thank you in advance for your cooperation, and wish you luck with
your future ebay transactions.

Sincerely,
Akira

Message: Please read my auction and look at my photo. This coin came
this way from the US mint. I have a clear photo and an acurate
description of the coin. Please explain to me why this auction was
pulled for I see no reason for it.

I think that the "EDGE LETTERING ERROR" wording in the title is what caused our auction to be pulled. I wouldn't worry about there being a black mark against you. I would try to relist this item with EDGE LETTERING removed from the title and replace it with INCOMPLETE LETTER instead. I think with EDGE removed from the title, you should be okay. I hope this works for you. ebay never should have pulled your listing, but I'm sure it was pulled with a whole lot of others based on a title search of EDGE LETTERING ERROR or some similar thing. I am reasonably sure that ebay did not and will not look at each individual listing to see if they were justified.

I think ebay needs to put their money where their mouth is. I just searched Washington error upside and found 187 auctions.

Out of curiosity, how is this an actual error as opposed to simply a weak imprint?

I fully trust your integrity, I just don't know much about errors.

This would be considered a very minor error. There is no top of the "T" so I believe you are correct that it is a weak strike but it is not the way the mint intended so it is an error.
