Hello all! I am very new to the coin error world. I found a nickel, in my rainy jar fund,... I cant make out the date but it looks like it says 1984 or it could be 1964, and I can not make the mint out either... Please help me with this. I also want to know if it is worth 5 cents or if it worth more, and how much more? Thank you all for your help.
Could this be called a broadstrike? If so are they worth anything? It seems to me the nickel has kind of a silver sounds... Could this be a possibility?
Not an error. Its called a Dryer Coin. The coin gets caught in either a commercial dryer or other machine and just rolls around until it is either taken out during Maintenance or falls out.Just a very worn coin.
Your coin has been artificially worn, it is not an error. If the mintmark is on the obverse next to the date, it is a 1984. If it is on the reverse to the bottom right of Monticello, then it will be a 1964. Either way, it can only be a D mintmark if one is present. A broadstruck error is struck out of collar(metal plate that defines the diameter of a coin when struck) so it would have a larger-than-normal diameter.
Yea I can see the edge of a letter on the front side with the date. So this is a 1984 and has no value over 5 cents? lol cool and thank you so much for your help. I will stay updated and post all the new finds.
