I'm considering buying this Follis of Maximainus with Carthage reverse. What is the consensus regarding the value of this coin?

It's a nice coin well centered with and excellent strike and from the Carthage mint. I've been looking at ones of these also, but I think the sell was asking a little too much. I would go as high as $40.

Gorgeous coin, Bing ..... oh, and the seller gets extreme bonus-points for such wonderful photos!

=> It has great, deep, rich tone => eye-appeal rating is off the scale!!

It may be the same coin, and I too think it is too high of a price. But I am thinking of making an offer. The strike is really nice and its from Carthage, so a rare mint.

Wow, beautiful coin!
Well centered and the details are superb, even the trim at the bottom of the beard and the face on the obverse. I don't know anything about this type of coin, but why just $40 when it seems just about perfect?

This one is in just a little better condition than the one I was looking at. I have only two coins from the Carthage mint and when I see one for sale I try and buy it. If the price is right.

I own only three from the Carthage mint. One Julius Caesar and two Constantius I. I think this one is over priced, so I have made an offer. I am waiting on a response.

Nice coin JW. I hope it finds it way to you!

BTW I would not go over $40.00 on this one.

I think it's worth a little more than $40 (would be great if he got it at that price though); more like $50-55 max for it I'd say.

I wouln't say that this coin really is "overpriced" as it is. Good grade, nice style and patina, perfect centering, sarcer mint... The only "problem" I see is that it's from Maximianus (and not Diocletian, Constantius or Severus II). Still, a very worthy coin imo.

After looking more at this coin, I have to say the font the engraver used is awful. No wonder it took so long for me to be able to read worn coins. I doubt I would have been able to make much sense of this one when I started this hobby...way too many H's.

The reverse legend reads
Quote:
SALVIS AVGG ET CAESS FEL KART

I think the engraver did an excellent job fitting all of this onto the coin.

Well, the seller and I were unable to meet in agreement on a price. He at least considered my offer and was fairly quick in responding. He seems to be a conscientious seller who stands behind his product. He also told me he is a collector as well. I will be following his listings from now on as I liked our correspondence.

Soooo, if someone else is interested, the coin is still out there on ebay for you to buy.
