With most of the value being as a numismatic, conditional rarity? No grade.

This is a $5,000 coin in XF45, a $10,000 coin in AU55, and $20,000 coin in MS63. If this piece has problems, it's value could drop well under $3,000.

It needs to be slabbed by a major TPG. Don't speculate here beyond about $2,500.

The problem that I was thinking of ....how do I know if the coin was improperly cleaned. If I won the bid and sent it out for grading and it can back as improperly cleaned
I rally would lose money?

My advice is to stay away from coins like this unless graded, esepecially if they have "no returns"...

If you want to bid and have the money, don't bid over $2,500.

There's no way to tell from those pictures if the coin has problems. The black mark on the reverse concerns me and there is a good chance it has been cleaned. Tooling is not ususual on pieces like this either.

i see some additional discoloration over the "W" and "E" on the reverse. And what is that in the shield on the reverse? The rays on the reverse? is that all verdigris to some degree? I would save my money here unless you can stay right above spot.

Your right, I'm going to stay away from this coin.
I usually only buy graded coins, that was a promiss I made to myself many years ago...this way you know what you buying.

Thanks for all your help,
bobbart

This coin is still under $2400 with about 2 hours to go.

If I was in a position to spend $2400 on a coin right now? I'd take a shot at it.

bobbart, stick to a slabbed coin seriously unless you like gambling with your money.
