Hello Community! I have an ancient coin that I need identified. If anyone knows what this is, and a ballpark value, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!
It is indeed an ancient coin, a silver denarius of emperor Gordian III, reverse PIETAS AVGVSTI. An extremely common type; there are 15 examples on the Wildwinds page for the type. Clicking through the "text" links on that page will give you the prices realised for each coin; they range from $30 to $90. This one looks a little rough and pitted and this is one emperor for which coins in near-Uncirculated condition are not hard to find, so I'd place yours down at the lower end of that price range.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
