I was looking at the hot US coins and I cannot help but wonder why the cents listed by Great Southern look like they have some type of oil or something on them to really stand out. Almost looks like olive oil on the coin. If you look at other similar coins posted they do not have the sheen theirs do. Does anyone else see this, yet they continue to get bids. Thanks

Theres a thread on them in the ebay section of the forum. The general opinion is that they over photograph their coins. Basically they doctor up the photos and make the coins look as good as possible yet they look much different in hand. I dont think there was any mention of them actually cleaning the coins, but the photos are so well done that they are misleading

Thank you, will go check it out. I am fairly good with Photoshop and I don't think you can take a normal coin pic and give it that wet look they seem to have using that program. They must get them wet with some type of substance and then take the picture.

I honestly have no idea how they do their pictures, but they certainly dont look "natural" to me. They just jump out at you with the impression theyre more favorable than the coin looks normally.

Maybe it's the same coin over and over and over with only the date changed. Mint mark added and/or removed.

I'm gonna got out on a limb and say I'm fairly certain they don't put any type of liquid on their coins. It has been proven that their coins look completely different in their ebay listings than they do in hand. Could you give us a link to one your looking at so we can give more opinions?

Couldnt you get the wet glossy look with the right lighting using the coins own shine?
