Hello,
As I mentioned in a different thread (https://goccf.com/t/1301) I am working with my future father-in-law on a North American circulation type set. I need the most help with the list for Mexico, so hopefully I'll find some assistance here!

Below is what I have at this point, which I do not believe to be complete. For this collection, we are focusing only on coins designed for circulation, and are trying to include major design and/or composition changes. For example, in our U.S. type set list, there are three types of Indian Head cents:

Indian Head, No Shield (1859)
Indian Head, Cu-Ni (1860-1864)
Indian Head, Bronze (1865-1909)

Thanks for any help you can provide!
Regards,
~neuron

Hi Neuron
Welcome back! Haven't seen you around-can't imagine what you've been doing with your time Working bugs out of tempermental equipment, bringing new techniques into the lab- those sorts of things always take much less time than a lab director thinks...
All of my Mexican coinage knowledge comes from living in alta CA and consequently spending time in Baja CA. Mexico had rampant inflation in the 80s, to the point that in 1993, they revalued their currency and began issuing the neuvo peso- where 1000 "old" pesos were worth one new. I don't have any handy, but I know that that the early 90's coins had "NP" for new peso on them, and thecoins from the 80s to early 90s were in "ridiculously" large denominations. starting in '96, they dropped the "N" for neuvo. current np coins are 10, 20 and 50 centavos, 1, 2, 5 10 and 20pesos (mexico evidently tried to circulate a 50p coin, but it didn't fly- worth about $5 US). 5 centavo coin was made in early 90s, but no longer circulates (worth about 1/2 US cent currently)

I have several of the early 90s NP coins lying in my change bowl. They're just cirrc examples that I didn't get around to spending. Give me a shout if you want 'em.

Thanks for the welcome back, Don! My lab rats have been keeping me quite busy, but thankfully that experiment is done and I have a little time before I begin the next one. Time to catch up on my coin collecting! I'll see what I have and what I need re: Mexican coinage, and I just might take you up on your offer.

Thanks for the good info and the link- I am going to check it out and see what additional information I can find. I'll be gone for the next few days for a wedding though, so if anyone has more useful info for me in the meantime, I'd sure appreciate it!

Regards,
~neuron
