However it doesn't look like this one has the edge lettering like the one in the news recently.

Rest in Peace

I smell a fish. A sucker to be more specific. There's a few too many red flags on this auction and the coin. The seller has anonymous bidders, no stated return policy, and four negative feedbacks questioning the seller's veracity. I am suspicious of the "blank coin" itself. Does a planchet have raised rims before it goes into the die? And what appears to be a somewhat convex surface? The depth of the field inside the rim looks deeper than the compared GW. A skilled machinist could easily mill off the devices on both sides. I'd like to hear a statement of weight of the blank coin; if legit, it should weigh the same as a finished George.

the rim would be the first thing added to the planchet on a cent or other US coins but on this new Dollar coin I am not sure what came first. but in this case I would say the chicken came first and run as fast as I could in the other direction

MorganFred I agree with you. I can't imagine the rim being raised that high. The rim appears to slant inwards.

The Prez $ blank planchets should be the same as the Sacky blank planchets. There are two types of planchets- Type I is a flat blank and Type II has been run through an upset mill(think coin spooning) to give the intial form of a rim.
It looks like a genuine Type II planchet although I am puzzled by the "one side polished" comment as I am not aware that any circulation planchets are "polished" (someone please correct me if I am wrong about this). I think one side just happens to be rougher than the other.

The real problem is the fact that this seller cannot prove that this is a Prez $ blank planchet and not a Sacky blank planchet. I could care less if the seller claims to have obtained the coin by searching 25 boxes purchased on the first day of issue- it means squat

Seems like the buyer paid about $875 too much for an uncertified golden dollar planchet, something that could be purchased raw from http://www.fredweinberg.com/invento....asp?ID=3152 for $125.

For pics of the two types of golden dollar planchets, go to http://home.earthlink.net/~smalldol.../page21.html for details.
