A public thanks to Moe:

This topic has given we poor collectors of "V" nickels the chance to show off our stuff.

And Paleo, feel free to steal my thunder any time.
We "V" people have a wicked sense of humor - we have to,
as we are the Rodney Dangerfields of coin collectors.
We don't get no respect!

I am helping keep alive the "How Far Back Can We Go" in the Main Coin Forum section. Does that count?
Yes. Yes it does.

Hey, hey my, my!
In 1883 coins totally FLY!
But it's time to replace the Shields
So wave them bye, bye!

A great new design;
the V now means five,
An MS Lib nickel makes me
feel so alive!

Designed by Barber
first without "Cents",
People started cheating
getting dollars for pence!

"Unacceptable" and "Insane",
screamed the people that be
"Barber, you crazy, you crazy?" they said!
Change that design right now,
put some "Cents"on that V,
Get No Cents nonsense outta your head!!

With lots of shiny coins
the Mint started out fair
then, "Ooops, way too many!"
and '85 & '86 got pretty rare.

Then in 1912, came V's from San Fran,
The lovely new Mint on the coast
Another key coin you just gotta have
A beautiful lovely on which you can boast!

For 30 great years the coins
Came from the Mint.
Shiny and beautiful
Around this nation they went.

Millions of nickels
and all of them great
What a wondrous design!!
Charles Barbers' best! First rate!

Plenty of commerce
passed under these V's
lots of people used 'em
for milk, oats and peas!

Most are worn now
and they look pretty mean
There are TONS of mere smooth ones;
just a few are pristine.

But many of our CCF folks
seem to have a V nickel gem,
my eyes are astounded
by the amazing array of all them!

I want to collect all the Vs;
And all in AU.
This Forum totally inspires me
I swear this to be true!!

But right now my Vs
Are all a real mess.
I should start all anew
Maybe complete all in MS?

1898

The second of three "Vs" which I acquired last month.
I was allowed to borrow a dealer's personal collection
overnight. Cash plus trade of old example.
Nice fellow Brad is. Reminds me of
Penn from Penn and Teller. Ponytail and all.

OK, Paleoguy45's 1896 gets my vote for ugliest.
Dang, I really thought my nail file coin had it all wrapped up.
Thing is I KNOW paleoguy has a nice one laying around somewhere!

I'm catching up after being offline for a couple of days. I went to Maine to check on the beach house after the earthquake.

Here's my 'nothing special' 1897 and 1898 - will there be a special award for mediocrity?

Hey HEY, cipster!
In God's eyes, all "V" nickels are His children.

There is room here, thanks to Moe, for each and every one of them.

Post away, everybody, and be comforted by the fact that we love these coins both great and ...gory!

Yours, cipser, are not gory at all!
