I am fortunate to be able to work with my Brother who also shares the same interest in coin collecting. He actually got me started collecting. During the course of our day we see or talk to most of our accounts (customers). We have been in business for over 20 years and have built a good relationship with our customers. Some of them are friends that we also talk to outside of work.
Every once in a while one of our customers gives us her change that she has collected. She allows us to go through it before she takes it to the bank. My Brother went through about $400.00 the last time and found 1 silver dime. She tells us to just keep what we find and only pay her face value for what we keep. But when we find any silver we feel it's only fair to pay her spot price. I had more free time so I volunteered to go through this last batch. Below are the results of the latest search.
Here is the amount of change I went through this time. I did not have time to count it but I would guess it was at least $200.00.

Here is what I was able to save.

I also found $3.75 in
ATB Quarters, $1.12 in copper, and a really beat up 1941-S Nickel.
This may be of help for those of you who cannot find banks that will get you boxes. See if you can find someone that will let you go through their coins before they take them to the Coinstar or the bank. Volunteer to take the coins back to the bank for them? I found this to be another source for my searching hobby. My Girlfriend and her Mom have many yard sales through out the year. I supply them with coin and bills so they don't have to go to the bank and I get to go through the change they get. They keep two cash boxes, one for collections and one for payments.
