I just bought this from an ebay seller in france, and I am elated!

Opinion-On-My-First-Civil-War-Note,-Grade,-And-Storing?

it's in great shape, despite the missing corner, but I was surprised by it's size. it won't fit in any of my note holders, not even my large-size bill holders; it's too wide.

I am just curious as to which holder size I would need, and what you folks think of its condition?

I would suggest using "LightHouse" supplies ...

Either:

- The GRANDE system (9 x 12 in)

OR

- The MAXIMUM system (13 x 13 in)

Cheers

For the time being, an 8 1/2 inch by 11 inch page protector would work. [Oh you Canucks! I am too tired to convert into metric.]
Once protected, you can bring it to dealers and ask, "What do you have to fit better?"

The graphic of the horses and carriage are a delight to see.

I am not into these at all but I do know there are many copies of CW notes out there. Are you positive this is a genuine note?

What does the reverse look like? Do the signatures bleed through to the back of the paper?

This site explains what to look out for on reproductions.

I am not certain of it's authenticity. It cost me $17, and the seller is exclusively a seller of notes on ebay, with 100% feedback of 14000+. I messaged him to ask him what makes him sure of it's authenticity, as aside from the missing corner, it's in very good shape for its age.

Examined it again tonight after reading the excellent resource provided by wquinn. The signatures are in brown ink, and I am all but positive they are on-note as opposed to printed. That was actually the first thing that jumped out at me, the fact that the signatures *were* and-signed on the note.

I am pretty confident it's legit. I have a second one coming in the mail from the same year that I paid a little less for, that is in far worse condition. At least I will be able to compare them.
