Hi, I'm planning a week in Frankfurt in December, and I'm interested in good coins shop or free-air coins market. Are there some German coins collectors that can help me with some good suggestions ?
Thanks, Antonio.

Don't think there are any open air coin markets in Frankfurt, and December would not be a good time for them anyway. There is a major coin show in the city, but that would be on 3-4 November ... probably too early for you: http://numismata.de/frankfurt/fra_start.htmIn terms of stores, Busso Peus (oldest coin store in Germany) focuses on auctions but has a "walk-in" store too as far as I know. Why not ask them? http://www.bussopeus.deIf you are interested in seeing (not buying) coins and paper money, the Bundesbank's Money Museum could be interesting as well: http://www.bundesbank.de/Navigation..._museum.html Admission is free; just note that it is closed on Saturdays. Hi platinrubel and thanks for the suggestion, I will have to use my lunch time if I'ld like to visit a coin shop due to opening hours, anyway I'll try to do it.
I see you are from Austria, If I can I'ld have another question for you, do you know if there are coins shops or coins events also close to Lienz ?
Bye, Antonio.

Quote: yes of course: in germany and also in austria, shops are not allowed opening on sundays (except souveniershops, gasstations or restaurants) True, but if the Busso Peus store was in this state (North Rhine Westphalia) for example, it could be open 24 hours a day, on 6 days per week. Not sure whether the Hessian regulations are the same, but somehow I doubt they would want to have such opening hours. ;) We have a forum meeting (different coin forum) in Frankfurt this weekend; will have a look at Peus and also that store you mentioned. Thanks! Tschüs, Christian

A good thing to do would be to buy one of the (quite expensive) German coin magazines, there are quite a few, which might tell you quite a few different shops in Germany, and probably there are a lot in Frankfurt.

Another problem could be that those German language magazines are unlikely to be available at stores in Italy. ;) Even here in Germany only a few newsstands sell them. There's Münzen Journal (€3.50 per issue) and NNB (Numismatisches Nachrichten-Blatt, €3.50), and also the somewhat flashy Deutsches Münzen Magazin (€5.40). The biggest numismatic publishing house has two: Münzen & Sammeln (€5.70) and Münzen Revue (€5.90). Of course magazines such as Money Trend from Austria often have ads by and references to dealers in Germany too.
Well, I just had a look at the latest Münzen Revue, and in Frankfurt they list Peus (see above) only. There may very well be more (platinrubel mentioned one), but a general problem is that the number of "classic" coin shops - you simply walk in, look and maybe buy - has shrunk considerably, also in Germany, in the past couple of years. If I run into one tomorrow or Saturday, I'll post it here. :)

maybe theese magazines could be interesting you, they are published in frech/german and italian language.
Schweizerische Numismatische Rundschau - Revue Suisse de Numismatique - Rivista Svizzera di Numismatica: CHF 60.â€" pro Band / tome / volume. (1 tome per year)
Schweizer Münzblätter - Gazette Numismatique Suisse - Gazzetta Numismatica Svizzera: CHF 50.â€" pro Jahrgang (= 4 Hefte / Fascicules / Fascicoli); Einzelheft / Fascicule / Fascicolo CHF 13.â€".
but I am sorry, I do not know any coinshop in or nearby lienz.

Got back from Frankfurt, and one store we went to is right in the ECB building (Eurotower). They sell coins and all kinds of souvenirs, and even have a "browse and grab" kind of box. :) If you stand in front of that famous euro sculpture, the store is at the front left corner. To get into the ECB, you would need an appointment, but the store (not operated by the ECB but by a dealer) has a separate entrance. Opening hours are Mon-Fri from 10.00 to 18.30 h ...
