Ok I can't remember if I have ever owned a Half Dime before but I bought a 1857-O Half Dime today for my 7070 in a very nice VF. And I took it out of its cardboard flip to put in my type set and holy crap is that one thin small coin. Can you imagine that in your coinage I am sure people lost those things all the time. And back in the 1850's five cents could have bought you a meal that was a lot of money to lose. Can you imagine all the complaining that would go on if they released a thin small coin like that today.

I owned a one dollar gold piece before and that was super small, I have also owned the Three Cent Silver piece in the past another tiny coin. I was just surprised how thin the coin was kind of took me back for a moment.

How coins have changed.

Half-dimes, trimes and one-dollar gold pieces...they are all in the same boat...tiny, thin and terrific!

I nearly lost that thing just adjust it in my type set, I had pushed it in to far and I wanted to have it closer to the front and since its so thin I took it out and put it back in but then it fell out and I am scrambling to find it. It slipped into the actual album by my empty Shield nickel spot and I had to work it out of the album gave me a scare.

Oh and I realized why I got such a good deal on it, they had it just marked as an 1857 and not an 1857-O and I got it for a little less than the 1857 price. Numismedia had the 1857 at $24 in VF and the 1857-O at $32 I got the coin for $22 so score for them not noticing it was an O mint mark :)

I remember buying my 3 cent silver at the Charlotte coin show quite a few years ago and when I got it home and took it out of the 2x2 to put it in the 7070 album I was shocked at how small that thing was. I then understood why I had seen so many of them had been bent when I was looking for one, its because they are tiny little things and feel very fragile in your hand

Can you imagine how many of these little gold fanams from India have been lost over time... The seller I purchased these from (in India) claimed they dated in the 1700's...

And that was $5 in the 1700's can you imagine what losing one of those would be like it would be like losing your mortgage check for the month devastating. Neat coins but man so small and thin.

Put a Half Dime down on the table figuring I would put it in the 7070 in the morning. Took me five days to find that coin. Was stuck on the bottom of a placemat. From now on everything goes in wherever it belongs right away. Also had trouble with the 3 cent silver sliding half way out of the slot in the 7070.

Id honestly slab coins that small just to be able to find them. When I get a Half Dime for my type set its going immediately in the album when broken out. If I put it down itll be gone forever
