I'm in the process of researching a Macedonian Kingdom silver tetrobol from the rign of Perdikkas II. According to the seller, it's attributed as SNG ANS 47. However, I think this may be incorrect. I'd welcome the opinions of others on it.

This is my coin:

This is SNG ANS:

Mis-Attributed-Coin?

This is Raymond 184ff:

Mis-Attributed-Coin?

There's obviously not a huge amount between them, and wearing has further removed distinguishing marks, but I think that if one looks closely enough, the lion's head in the SNG coin is more angular than the other two. There is a distinct flattening after the mane, and the face slopes downward from this. With my coin and the Raymond, the face begins almost immediately, and is more rounded.

Does this appear to anyone else, or is it just me going a little bit crazy?! And do you think it's enough of a distinction to quibble about the attribution?

I have to say: this attribution lark is fun!

@steve. They are nice coins. I wish I had all three!!

Looking at the coins now, I think the seller was correct. I was so focused on the reverse, that I didn't pay all that much attention to the obverse. In the Raymond 184ff, the horses head is clearly being reined back. In my one, and the SNG ANS, the horse's head is more relaxed, and looking more to the ground.

So that settles it...

I'll be back in an hour to change my mind again. It's not a coin at all!...
