I exchanged emails with the seller, offering him high-tech analysis equipment and expertise (not MY expertise - something that I don't have) to check the coin. We could check if the surface had contaminants and check the composition of the coin. The whole she-bang would cost him shipping and handling.
The seller was pretty much interested in knowing how much I would be willing to offer for the coin. I replied saying that it would depend on the results of the analysis and that modern patterns don't sell for the price he was asking.
The seller never accepted my offer.
