Here's something interesting:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1996-PATTER...t_500wt_1414

How tough would it be to apply the antique finish (e.g. 1908-1998 set) to existing coins?

Opinions?

My wife says silver can be tarnished with hard-boiled egg yolks then wiped with silver polish to obtain a contrast.

This coin to my sight has been altered. Having said that, I must also say that I know nothing of this series.

To my estimation, it may have been treated with acid or perhaps egg yolks as indicated above (sulphur in the egg yolks could be involved). Whatever the case, some skill has been applied to the process.

Not the first time this seller has tried to peddle that altered/damaged coin.

I guess the guy is just looking for a sucker. In todays economy can you really blame the guy for trying? He never said this is legitimate coin variety and just says unique.

I go to a highschool that specializes in law and I'm taking a couple college law courses from Vincinnes and Harrison. So I am no proffesional and I don't know about Canada's law involving fraud. In my opinion if this was tried in America he could have the chance at getting off the hook so to speak. This is because everything he says is true. He states that it is 100% authentic silver dollar, which it is. He also even says that the mint never produced it, so that is sort of an inlayed message. There are other things, but these are just the main ones that I could see. That is just my opinion though.
