Real $1 coin, but not gold- a manganese plating gives it the "golden" color. The reason for the plating is the fact that the $1 coin is very close in size to the US quarter dollar. The quarter is copper-nickel clad giving it a silvery appearance so the $1 coin is easily distinguished by color.

It's a "golden" coin, not a gold coin! Scam? Perhaps, or just buyers and sellers who really don't know any better.

A UKayer should well know the difference between gold and golden
I can understand that somebody with another mother tongue does not know the difference .
But there have been dozens of Sacagaweas in the first year that were offered as gold coins here in Europe

No Sacagawea was produced for sale in real gold. I'm not sure I would call it a scam, unless they put it in the gold category.

If you get a dollar Sacagawea for a dollar or even five dollars in a bank or anywhere you know it is not gold and then you call it a gold coin on ebay a coin you got yourself on vacation in the US that is intent to defraud is it not ? Cause you know at that price it cannot be gold .
Even if the original mold was produced to make a gold coin to be sent in outer space and then to be put in a museum .

There is a Belgian equivalent
a 50 Euro 1987 Charlemagne half ounce in gold which is called rare
notwithstanding there are 1 500 000 coins made and only 10 000 000 Belgians
Rest in Peace

The only gold Sacagawea dollars (10 in number?) are stored away by the Government.

You would be suprised how many Americans think that the Sackies are made of Gold. Its the Mints fault for there "Golden Dollar" ads.
If you hang out in a coin shop for any amount of time some little old lady will wander in with a Handfull of sackies that she wants to sell now that the price of gold has risen.
