that is allot of corrosion but man what a coin that would have been to find before it got so bad, heck its a nice one to find in any condition. That is an amazing dig find and I am sure you will not find anyone that disagrees Quote: Is there any way to "conserve" that coin ? There are no conservation methods that I know of that will remove the corrosion that bad. There may be a way to make it look a little better but it would still be what it is now

It might be worth sending that to NCS and see what they can do with it. I have absolutely no experience with them, what they can do or what they charge. From some of their photos, it looks like they can turn a rock into a double eagle.

How did you ID the obverse, Conder?

Conder is a "coin god". Thanks for the ID. Anyone know how many 1793 Half Cents are estimated to remain in existence today?

The "R-3" in conder's post refers to the Sheldon Rarity Scale. Stands for 201-500 known.

On obv 2 the Y in LIBERTY is very close to the cap, on obv 1 it is more distant. Also on obv 1 the date is almost in a straight line while on obv 2 it is spread out more and more strongly curved. On this coin the Y is away from the cap and the date is compact and straight, obv 1, rev has strong center dot, Rev B. Obv 1/Rev B is Cohen-2
It doesn't show well in the pictures but it also looks like the Lis above the forehead and not the upper browlock. That would also indicate Obv 1.
