They all have a space between the 0 & the 8.

the one at the top looks wider. I asked a few peaple here to look and they agreed

When I zoom in on the photo, I see what you mean. The top one looks like the 8 is thinner.

I see the second 0 a tad higher than the first.
Maybe just the die was made that way.

Devices can become thinner as a result of the die being polished.

There are exceptions, but generally no, polishing dies to remove clashes is very common.

Since they make one master model, and it makes one master hub which makes all the master dies, working hubs, and working dies ALL of the dies and coins from there will have the same spacing of the digits in the date. The only way to increase that distance is by polishing the dies which makes the features shallower and further apart.

In rare cases a second master design is made and then you can have differences in the design such as in 1960, 70, 74, and 82 to give us large and small dates.

There are also sometimes small differences in the design between the proof and business strike dies. This is where the CAM and WAM cents come from or the 1950's A and B rev dies on the quarters etc.
